Jill Collins.

I.Welcome and introductions
a. Approve General Membership Meeting Minutes – January 10, 2009. The motion is made by
Maryann and seconded by Jill. Minutes are passed by a majority vote.
II. Officers Report
A. Co-President’s Report – Region 1 presidents had a brief conference call in Feb. The next call is
scheduled for May.
B. Vice President’s Report – The VP was not in attendance.
C. Treasurer’s Report – Currently we made $687.21 profit on the hockey fundraiser. We have 104
members. Once again, anyone interested in insurance can contact either Gary Meyer at gmeyer@dhhi.com
or Maryann at treasurer@lirid.org for more information.
D. Secretary’s Report – If any one is not currently signed up on the Yahoo groups, please do so. That is the
board’s main way of informing LIRID members of meetings, workshops, and any helpful news that comes
our way.
III. Committee Reports
A. Mentorship – We are very excited that our first associates’ meeting had such a great turnout. Please
fill out the questionnaire as well as sign the confidentiality agreement and get them back to us. The library
is beginning to grow. If you have a donation, please see Patty S. or Stacey R.
B. Professional Development – Committee position open – Tara is stepping down as chair. Kristen
Connelly and Judy Sweeney will be acting as co-chairs.
C. Fundraising – not too late to buy more raffles for the hockey prizes. The game was a big success and
we will most likely do it again next year. We will be doing an Avon fundraiser this spring (thank you
Tracey for donating your profit). orders will be due in by March 28th. We are looking into another
fundraiser for the spring. Possibly at a comedy club.
D. Membership – Jessica Heron was not there to report.
E. Publications – Committee position open –The Feb newsletter had just been mailed and the website is
up-to-date! Please think about writing something for the newsletter to offer your unique perspective or to
make an announcement. Also, this committee needs members both to aid in getting them mailed out but we
are also in need of an editor.
F. Bylaws – Hopefully done by the Fall since a 90 day preview window is required for members.
G. Emergency Fund –In January we agreed to set this up. Now committee members are needed. Just 2
or 3 people.
IV. Old Business
A. 2009 National RID Conference update – another great opportunity to write something for our
newsletter. Students should consider looking into volunteer opportunities.
B. 2010 Region I Conference Strategic Challenges/Bylaws Review Task Force – The date is set for
August 13-15th, 2010. It will be held in Albany which has no local chapter so the 4 or 5 chapters that NY
has will divide the work between them. Metro is taking care of interpreters. Central is handling the
registration. What does LIRID want to do? Also, are there any volunteers to chair or lead our chapter?
V. New Business
Region I Yahoo group for SCBRTF – National will be making changes based on member feedback.
Deadline to submit yours is March 31st, 2009. Should be a very interesting meeting in August.
VI. Announcements and Thank You’s
Thank you SCC and Jane Hecker-Cain for use of the facilities.
Neil Golden, a representative of DHIS, wants us all to know that they are actively looking to expand into
the Long Island region.
Congrats to all our newly NIC certified interpreters: Denise, Kristen, Angela, Judy, Pat and Keri!
Kristen Connelly suggested that people start thinking about HOW they were going to get to Philly this
summer. Maybe people could carpool, take the train or there is a commuter bus that costs $12.
The question was raised as to whether we wanted to make up LIRID shirts to wear but that is not
necessary. They are already available at Cafepress.com.
The next general meeting will be May 9th at NCC. General meeting will start at 10 and there will be an
associates meeting which will begin at 9am.
