LIRID Board Meeting
April 4th, 2009

Old Business
• Storage Unit – Lisa had a reservation but had to cancel after learning that she needs Maryann with her
to sign for the monthly debits.
New Business
• May meeting
o Food/ Drink – Jill will ask people to help.
o Terps – Lisa will contact Toni
o Scholarship for National Conference - Will hold raffle at next general meeting
o Discussion of implementing a community forum to include the Deaf community. Similar to a
DIRC meeting. It was decided to announce a new initiative in September.
• Face book Page?
o Perhaps set up a page for Long Island Interpreters?
• Region I conference committee – Because there is no local chapter in Albany each affiliate is taking
on a responsibly. LIRID will run the regional business meeting.
• Emergency Fund – Since it has been approved by membership the next step is to create a committee
and put the form on the website. The committee will be Sandra Blum, Jill Collins and Christine Iannone.
• Co-president appointment? – Christine will announce her stepping down at the next general meeting.
The board will discuss a few names and approach people directly.
• Scholarship – Since we have a discretionary fund in the budget to send the president to the National
convention which we do not need, that money will be applied to a scholarship. The people who receive
these scholarships will be able to get reimbursement for their registrations. However they will be expected
to join the 2010 committee. Laurie will send out a flyer before the general meeting.
• Committee updates – Lisa will email updates
- Professional Development – Workshop June 6th. Sally Bruno will be leading a workshop on the Betty
Colonomos model. Mill Neck will be sponsoring the ceu’s. It was discussed to make this a member
appreciation day. $20 for members and will include lunch and ceu's?
- Fundraising – We made over $900 from the hockey game. They are looking into another fundraiser at
Governor’s Comedy club. There is a $150 fee which gives us 120 tickets to sell for what ever we want.
There will be a 2 drink minimum.
- Membership – The directory is done and will be mailed this weekend. Renewals are due July 1st. Will
make an announcement at general meeting.
• Future general meetings at Suffolk? – It was decided to stick to 2 a year. November and March.
