Long Island Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
My name is Jill Collins. I am the secretary for LIRID. I am
also a wife, mother, and a community interpreter. I started
interpreting in 2006 while completing the LaGuardia ITP.
I love this job because it allows me to do something
important that challenges me and take care of my family as
needed. Every day is different and I never get bored. Yes,
sometimes it can be scary but I have the solid background
that LaGuardia gave me to fall back on as well as my fellow
interpreters. That is why involvement in groups like LIRID is
so important for working interpreters. It creates an
opportunity to meet, ask questions, make friends, and to
create a support network.

meetings.
